Blackhawk Real Estate Costs

Blackhawk homes are as varied as Condominiums and Castles. Few homes here sell below $1,000,000 though and there is lots of choice in the $2-5 million price range as well as many homes at even higher prices.

Blackhawk is a well-established community of over 9 square miles situated in an unincorporated area of Contra Costa County to the east of Danville along Camino Tassajara. This San Ramon Valley community of approximately 11,000 people has attracted business executives, entrepeneurs, professional athletes and media personalities as residents as well as a wide range of business professionals. The San Ramon Valley runs North-South from Martinez to San Ramon along highway 680 and the largest community here is Walnut Creek, which is situated by the junction with Highway 24, approximately mid-way down the valley. To put Blackhawk real estate prices into perspective, homes here typically cost a little less than Diablo but are higher priced than most other communities in the San Ramon Valley.

Blackhawk Real Estate History

Blackhawk was developed in the late 1970s by the Blackhawk Development Corporation, a company formed by Florida real estate developer, Ken Behring. Originally, a proposal was made to develop 4,200 acres of what was previously Blackhawk Ranch but due to considerable opposition, there were ultimately only 2,400 homes built and 2,000 acres were dedicated to Open Space as part of the Mount Diablo State Park.

Blackhawk's reputation for high-end luxury homes is longstanding and well deserved. Although there are many homes here that were built speculatively and that are well under 2,500 square feet, a glance along Blackhawk Drive reveals numerous architectural styles where an English Tudor site happily alongside a French Provincial or a Greek Revival home. Many of these properties are over 5,000 square feet and built to the highest standards.

But Blackhawk is about more than real estate. There are many social and recreational activities here, most of which center around Prestigious Blackhawk Country Club with two championship golf courses, swimming pools, tennis courts and two club houses. Additionally, there is Blackhawk Shopping Center which features numerous quality restaurants and stores together with the world famous Blackhawk Motor Museum.
